Being the true professional I am, I will not just go there and fix my wiring, ignoring his so that just the karaoke works. When I leave I will make sure that everything works as it should. Any wiring that the cable/dish jerk put in will be there and everything that he and I installed will work as i...

Re: Bar Switching TV Providers.

One of my jobs just switched from cable to satellite dish for their TV programing. I got a call today about two developments there. First the best manager left and took another job. They said they couldn't afford 4 managers so he volunteered to go back to his old job. They just hired a ne...

Well last night was the first run with the new console. All in all it worked out great. As you would expect though there were some gremlins I needed to work out and one I still need to work on. The board sounds great. And not having to lug that huge rack into the bar made the whole night more enjoya...

What is the price of the unit new and used? How big is it from front to back? Will you need a special rack box? Will there be a big learning curve? I'd be happy with an 18 year old bikini clad assistant instead. Talk about learning the curves. New the 01V costs around $2300, probably n...

Equipment Downsizing

Ok, so I'll admit it, I'm an pro-audio equipment whore. I love the look of a big rack full of useful outboard equipment. I love having all the compressors, eq's and effects that I could ever want right there within arms reach. I'm pretty happy with my current rig, got everything I could want in term...

Re: Carpeted walls suck!

I did a wedding reception for a relative (the only ones I'll do) Saturday afternoon. It was held in a large room with 12 foot high acoustic tile ceilings and the walls were covered with thick carpet from top to bottom with no windows. I spent an hour before anyone arrived trying to get a decent sou...

My books all have pockets in the front (bult into the binder) that hold the pens and slips. However, BD you mentioned people being lazy and not filling out slips, I personally don't mind it and actually encourage it. I mean I've got this cool computer hosting software with search as you type capabil...

OK but...my sound..... music and vocals goes through the same 31 band EQ out of the mixer. If I start dropping the freqencies to fix the mic rumble, I'll be affecting the sound of the music too. Assuming that you are using separate channels for music and each mic, I suggest cutting the low end on y...

Yeah I really don't get the whole fear of competition thing. I've had KJ's come in and sing at my shows on many occasions. I've even had some that have asked me for technical assistance to help them run their show better (i.e. like how to setup compression) and I gladly oblige. I'm comfortable and c...

Lack of consistancy on the bar owners part is what's causing the problem. I don't know why they think because I walk in the door there will immeadiately be a full bar. Give it at least one night...   Sounds like this is what they were expecting. "Instant Success" just a...

Sounds to me like maybe the KJ is running the microphones through the Computer. Converting an analog audio source to digital and then back to analog will always result in a certain amount of latency, no matter how fast the processor. I'd be willing to bet that is what is going on with his system. A ...

250 Hz is always a good place to start with taking a little out. This is where proximity effect comes into play (which can muddy the tone) and also would lead to behavior like you described. If that doesn't do it, then go down to the next octave (125Hz) and cut a little there too.

It means that DJ Tony is a nickname I was given when I did radio work and so it just stuck when I started this Karaoke business.

Effects do vary by song and in many cases they vary withing the song. Some songs need only enough verb so that it's barely detectable, others (especially many slower songs) need it soaking in verb. Also many songs use dry vocals in the bridge and then bring the effects back in when the chorus fires ...

Because if they can find Karaoke at every single bar in town, they'll pick based on the bar not on the Karaoke. As long as the Karaoke is passable, they'll go. So now it's all about the bar. It is somewhat confusing but I've had people talk about singing at a Karaoke show that they had previously to...
