Thanks guys, you brought up a lot of good points and counter points which is exactly what I needed. I think what I'm going to do is go with offering to do the first few shows at my old rate and then bump up after that and see how it goes from there. I think I can do that without risking spoiling the...

If I walked in to see a band and paid a cover, yes I'd want to see the full show. And yes I'd be pissed if the show got pushed back by a sporting event. From the band perspective, I can tell you our band never takes shows where we "play for the door" unless there's an alternative minimum a...

What would you do?

Ok here's a situation I'm looking for opinions/ideas/etc on. About 10 months ago I played my last gig at a local club (It was the last of 12 gigs there). The owner called me a few weeks following that gig to try to book two more dates that I was not available for. Apparently he really needed to fill...

I'm curious why you're not able to load the songs. I run mine on Vista with no issues at all. I had it on XP previously until my laptop bit the dust and I had to get a new one with Vista pre-loaded. I've not had any problems. I'd be happy to help you try to figure it out if you want, just let me know.

The legality issues aren't an issue as long as you either: Purchase a second copy of each song, or ensure that only one system is in use at a time. As far as which software to go with, I've been extremely happy with AutoKDJ. I tried RoxBox and had all sorts of trouble and just funny behavior with th...

Well I've heard it on the radio plenty, however that may have been mostly on XM. I know it's on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 chart, maybe it needs more American airplay before we'll see it on Karaoke.

New Nickelback - Shakin' Hands

Anyone seen Shakin' Hands from Nickelback's Black Horse album out on Karaoke yet? They released the song in November but I haven't found it on disc or any of the online sites yet.

You didn't say if your current system is computer or disc based. I'm assuming computer based so I'd vote to keep it consistent. Why mix the two? I think the computer stuff is pretty easy to use, just give her good directions to follow for getting it up and running and she should do fine.

St. Patricks Day Shows???

How many of you have a gig scheduled for St. Patricks Day? Are you doing anything different? I know a local bar in town here used to do Karaoke for multiple shifts throughout the day on St. Patty's Day. I've got a show that night (my regular Tuesday Night show) but I gotta talk to the bar manager to...

This is why I have a back up everything. You name it I have 2 of them. Usually with me. Laptop, video processor, hard drive and all the needed power adapters. Think about all the KJs on a "Budget" that don't want to spend the money to back everything up. Totally doesn't make sense. You wo...

I did discover one drawback to playing at non-smoking bars. The smokers go outside to smoke so if they're signed up to sing, you've got more instances of calling for a name of someone to sing who's gone outside for a smoke. Happened a couple times to me this past week at my newest gig which is in a ...

Personally, I wouldn't go any smaller than 600W (300W/Channel). Ideally, I'd say go with at least 1000W. The thing is, 600W would cover a room like what you've described, however you'd be pushing the system to close to 100%. That's not good, what you want is what is referred to as head room. Unlike ...

RCA inputs are line level inputs. A regular dynamic microphone does not produce a signal at line level (+4 db), rather it comes out at mic level (-40 db). Therefore you need a pre-amp to boost the signal (on a typical mixer, these are built in on the Mic inputs). For your purposes, something like th...

Two things I can think of that might be the problem. First, is it a computer microphone or just a regular dynamic microphone. If it's a dynamic microphone, it will not work plugged directly into the computer. Dynamic mic's need a pre-amp which your sound card on the computer does not provide. So mak...
