@wiseguy...all good points, but KJs have a responsibility not only to their singers, but to the crowd and the bar as well....KJs are soundguys as well as hosts with the goal of making the show sound as appealing as possible. If a singer is really bad there is no unfairness in turning his vocal down ...

Oh God help us all....I have had FOUR shows at clubs with roadside marquees that abosolutely would not put up karaoke-such-and-such-nite no matter how much I begged....they didn't have the letters, they didn't have the ladder, they didn't have the time, they didn't fee like it, the cook is the only ...

I try for as much control over bar lighting as the club is willing to give me...I hate bright blue-white neon lights and will turn them off if given a chance. I will put candles on the tables with my own money (no big deal, tea lights in little jar holders cost next to nothing but add ALOT of ambien...

VCDs....I have bought almost every VCD I could find, the quality is indeed very spotty but some ofthem are extremely good as well. I always use the infamous pouting-little-boy VCD Bohemian Rhapsody track when I have a large group doing that song, they love the cheesy graphics! Another good one is th...

See my post on bootleg KJs...educate your singers that they are hurting working musicians, engineers, producers and studios and have put the biggest karaoke makers SC and CB out of business. Many won't give a flying fart, but many will...many more people than you realize really do have good hearts. ...

@Wiseguy...I hear you on that and ofcourse how/if/when a KJ announces his other shows depends on the mgt at each bar. Personally, my clubowners know I am announcing all my shows at all my shows, so its a promotional parity for everyone. Also, my bars don't have karaoke on the nights I am not there, ...

"DON'T FORGET TO TIP YOUR BARTENDER"
Are YOU guilty of The Lamest Line In Karaoke: "Don't forget to tip your bartender!" I can't believe how many hack-ass KJs still generically say it, sometimes all night long, sometimes after every frickin singer, and why is it always the KJs who use that phoney baloney carney-oke voice? };=...

PROMOTING YOUR SHOWS AT YOUR OTHER SHOWS
Is it OK to promote your other shows at your shows? Some clubs forbid it. Many KJs do not, I most certainly do. Here's how I "get away with it", semi-tactfully. First, I announce what's happening at the club I am at, the band that's playing the next night. Then I say something like "b...

Hey man, one door closes another one opens. get him to run a drink special. I always attempt to negotiate drink specials when i negotiate gigs. I'd rather get a bar to a $600 ring with 40 people spending $15 than 20 people spending $30. I have found that beer specials alone don't entice people as mu...
