My attitude towards accepting "tips" has changed significantly over the last few years. I was very rigid with my "rotation rules" and bent them for nobody in the beginning. Fast-forward a few years later and things are different. Someone offers me a decent tip to be bumped up in ...

I agree completely with Berry. I do 4 or 5 shows a week all at different locations and none are considered "karaoke bars". There is usally different entertainment each night at these venues and I approach each one differently.

I suggest you guys lay off the caffeine. If someone approaches you at the kj booth, etc. and simply says smile..... what's the big deal? My god! Is it really that bad of a suggestion? Maybe the person sees that your totally intense and really trying to do a great job and just wants to see you crack ...

As I stated on another site, Live band karaoke is making a minor comeback down here. I think it's more of a novelty than anything. It's different and unique until you go the second time. I wouldnt reccommend it for the karaoke regulars. Tne bands usually know less than 100 songs and wind up playing ...

I would say the majority of my crowds are between 20-30 yrs of age. The gender is split pretty evenly. Girls do sing the most and usually have the most talent.

Sports bars suck!!!!

Sorry for the rant..... but I just fired a venue for giving me the run-a-round for the last month or so and it really has me pi$$ed off. There is a sports bar about 20 minutes from where I live and I've been doing karaoke there for about 2 years with pretty much no problems or complaints. Well, they...

I'm not a dj. I'm a kj and I prefer to hear people sing. It's pretty hard to justify playing 3 or 4 songs while there are 20 or 30 people waiting to sing. I don't believe you can mix the two and get away with it. Either be a kj or a dj. Not both. Sure, there are bad singers but there are also bad so...

Yeah, you can spot them a mile away. I usually let them sing and mute them about 75% of the time. They never know and I save the rest of the room from hearing this idiot scream for 4 minutes straight.

When I started doing karaoke I would take "smoking gigs" and would literally have to put all my equipment in my front yard after a show to clean and air it out. Speakers, props, mics, etc all wreaked of cigarette smoke.
Thank god those days are over.

Yeah, I don't know how it would work. Lots of folks coming back from visiting family after a long weekend. Good luck. We were slammed both thursday and friday so far. I have a bachelor/bachelorette party today so no worries about sales, people, etc. Sunday is my day with family. Happy Easter

Yeah, I'm with bigdog. People who would be interested in what your talking about have internet access by phone and my website has our songlist, contact info, schedule, etc. on it.
Now if you could come up with a way to eliminate song books forever.... that's something I'd be interested in.

I think either situation is up to the owner. If they dont mind the new clientele and dont fear any backlash then so be it. Its a free country.
