Yeah, my shows are running pretty good without me drinking.... lord knows how it would turn out with me having a buzz or even worse a couple sheets to the wind. No thanks, I deal with enough drinkers each night.

Dont know that ASCAP, etc. would even bother with this. We're small fries in their eyes And I think they would want something juicier. Heed Bigdog's advice and sharpen your skills. Update your sysytem. Get a website, put together a marketing strategy that shows what your all about. What separates yo...

Ok Bigdog, I'll vent a little too. My last Tuesday night gig at Applebees was by far the worst night in my short karaoke life. The venue is located very close to a local college and a couple of the local bars had "all you can drink" specials which killed my night. The night started better ...

Fair enough wiseguy. I agree that a cocktail during your show isn't going to kill anyone. However, having two buckets of beer on or near the karaoke stage isn't very professional in my opinion. I'm not a big drinker to begin with so getting even tipsy wouldn't occur during my show. I also believe th...

To drink or not to drink... That's the question

Was at a new karaoke show tonight (unfortunately not mine) and noticed the 2 girls running it were drinking alcohol. Was wondering how you all felt about drinking alcohol while you perform your show. I rarely drink at my show unless prodded by a customer who insists on buying me a beer, etc. These t...

It seems to me that the people who think they can sing but really cant are the biggest divas at my shows. You know the ones who ask you to drop it a "full key" because they cant sing that high and then you accommodate them only to find that they sing so monotone the whole time that it woul...

Owners are usually too damn lazy to help promote your show. They feel they've done enough in hiring you and therefore, you should self-promote your shows. I have had numerous conversations with owners in regards to marketing, advertisement, etc. and maybe 2 times out of 10 make any sense with them. ...

Well, I'm glad for the no smoking in public places. Especially in places where I do karaoke. My equipment no longer wreaks of cigarette smoke(minus the mics) and I breathe easier because of it. I did a gig recently at an Eagles Club (about a month ago) which allowed smoking (huge mistake) and it too...

Damn Sabrina, I just noticed these posts by you at the end of May and wondered how you wound up. I feel so sorry for you and your husband. Its almost impossible to have a good attitude and stay upbeat all night doing karaoke when you put up with what you do. This lady sounds very disrespectful and n...

Another genius decision made by an incompetent bar owner. I know not all bar owners are dumb, but come on. They have no loyalty. Sounds like this couple had a very successful show (5 years)and when the times start getting tough the owners bailed on ther kj's. If the owner is willing to get rid of PR...

Bigdog You have a very valid point with regards to crap kj's hurting the industry. In Florida it's like starting from scratch. For every decent kj down here there's 50 bad ones. The ones who have poor equipment, poor business skills, poor mixing ability, poor negotiating skills, poor attitudes, etc....

As the old adage says...... "you get what you pay for". I recently got undercut by another kj who offered to do his show for half of what I charge. I had been there for about six weeks and was getting a pretty good following. The problem was the owner didnt have any loyalty to me and was l...

Sounds like it worked out for you Bigdog! I have done about a half-dozen free gigs in my short time as a kj to generate new business and its worked out 50% of the time. I've been scammed by the bar owner that never intended to have entertainment in the first place and I've also been hired to do week...

I flat out refuse to do "free" gigs anymore unless it's charity, no matter the circumstance. I am established now and if my marketing, references, and resume wont get me the job I certainly am not giving away my time for free. We work for peanuts as it is in this business and I personally ...

I'd also like to reiterate that I gain nothing monetarily from doing either of these things. Its part of our show and are singers absolutely love it!
