Bigdog wrote:As for the 3 packs of second hand smoke...lets do some simple math.. Since the smoking law was changed in PA the smoking bars became filled with nothing but smokers... Chain smokers at that...99% of the people in the smoking bars smoke....that's the only reason they are there.... 50 smokers in the bar...each smokes one cigarette every half hour...most smoke every 15-20 minutes but I'll be conservative for the math... 50 cigarettes every half hour...I'm in the bar for 6 hours...working 4 and 2 hours to setup and tear down..100 cigarettes evey hour Times 6 hours equals... 600 cigarettes or 3 entire cartons.... So how much second hand smoke would that equal.... And now there is cancer danger from third hand smoke which is from the smoke residue laying on everything in the bar from your equipment to the song books & food you ordered...
You pulled those statistics out of your ass. Show me some scientifically derived statistics that indicate 99% of the people who go to smoking bars are smokers. And then the evidence that "each smokes one cigarette every half hour...most smoke every 15-20 minutes". You can't devise the numbers and then say lets do some simple math. The concentration of the smoke in the room would be determined by the size of the room, the actual number of cigarettes being smoked over a specified period of time, and how well the room is ventilated. Once you have this data you could make an educated guess to how much smoke you might have inhaled. As it stands now... you're just blowing smoke.

With the smoking law change in PA...there are bars that allow smoking and bars that don't. In the smoking bars the only reason for anyone to be there is to smoke without having to go outside to do it. The smoking bar I worked in last year is where I made my observation. I have also observed the smokers that do come to my non smoking bars...they go outside every 15-20-30 minutes to smoke. In the smoking bar it was the same way and they probably are smoking faster. And yes the vast majority of people in that bar were indeed smokers. And yes there were 50 or more smokers there. Even if I'm off on my numbers by 100 cigarettes...which I doubt....500 a night is still a ton of second hand smoke I inhaled.

Then we have this topic.....and I'm not in favor of this in any way shape or form... Socialism is the gateway drug to communism.. Spin it anyway you want but the USA doesn't need socialism...I like the democracy being capitalistic. Who is supposed to pay for all of the FREE handouts? The country has too many deadbeats on the dole now... No country can survive if nobody works.... I guess you're going to tell me I made up the websters definition...

Your observations mean squat. Anecdotal evidence is the weakest form or evidence. Your entire case is based on assumptions. You have offered NO empirical or statistical evidence to support your conclusion. You're still just blowing smoke.

Since the U.S. does not need socialism I take it that you won't be applying for Social Security or Medicare when you reach retirement age... right? And of course you wouldn't think of applying for unemployment insurance benefits. How soon should we do away with veterans' benefits and close all public schools? Don't you dare call on the police or fire department and take advantage of those social entities. Stay of of public roads as well. People who say we don't need socialism are hypocrites!

8) I don't smoke and I never have. The problem I have with smokers is that their unhealthy habit can be transmitted to others. To smoke or not to smoke is an individual choice. While I feel smokers have the right to choose to smoke, others who do not choose to smoke for health reasons. should not be subjected in public places to their smoke. In the privacy of their own homes that's fine. If you have a friend that smokes you probably put up with the smoke or meet them in a place that doesn't allow smoking. Smoking in California is banned from public places period.

8) There not really hypocrites wiseguy they just don't realize how intertwined Big Government aka Socialism and Big Business aka Capitalism really are. They also don't realize how the system has been gamed by the so called rich establishment of both parties. The most striking example of Socialism, which is also the most Conservative element of the Government is the military. It is yet another form of Socialism, what I call Autocratic Socialism. You have the upper class that holds complete power the officers, and you have the rank an file who have to obey authority. Socialism is injected by the fact that the whole system both officer and rank and file are provided, wages, health care, housing, food, and everything else needed to accomplish their mission paid for by the Government aka the taxpayers. The Libertarians come the closest to wanting to eliminate Socialism in our society, and even they can't do away with it totally, since they believe that certain Government functions have to be maintained, or else Anarchy like a Mad Max society would evolve.

They are either hypocrites or idiots... I was being kind. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should know that our country would fall apart without social programs and that virtually every American benefits from them.

8) Bigdog don't look now but we have had Socialism in this country since it's founding it's called the Federal Government. It has always been the anti government forces in this country that have battled it. When you have a nation with a strong central government you are going to get Socialism. Socialism is necessary to the existence of government. If you get to vote it's Democratic Socialism. if you don't get a vote, if private property is abolished, and the central government is forced from the top down, it's the most radical form of Socialism aka Communism.

So what's it like to do karaoke where there are no smokers at all...because if you had any and paid attention even slightly you would notice them going outside at least every 30 minutes. I stand by my observations and statististics.

This guy is and idiot...he has pipe dreams probably from smoking crack...free this and free that....doesn't have a plan to pay back 17 trillion in debt...but we can afford to give everyone free college education... If he went to college he FLUNKED math...

As far as my social security....I paid into mine every payday...who is getting FREE social security... And who stole all the money from all of our accounts?

If Walmart is complaining about dropping sales and they have to close 250 stores...the economy is doing fantastic... That's a good economic indicator...I know my paycheck is getting smaller every year... Soon we will be at pre 1980 wages and slipping farther back every month...
Thousands of people have BIG O health care now but can't afford to use it because the deductibles are so high.... So how did that help anyone? The monthly payments are like being forced to buy a new car every year for the rest of your life but not being able to pay for gasoline for it.

Can't wait to see what's next... From the demo commies..

8) I didn't have anybody complaining about second hand smoke. They might go outside but they have to smoke in a special area setup for the purpose or be at least 500 feet from the building. It must be nice to have the time to make all of those observations and come up with all of your figures, usually I was too busy doing my hosting job, you must have quite a few light crowd nights.

Have you ever stopped to consider Bigdog that we are the richest country in history. That we have based our wealth on projecting our military power since WWII. Prior to WWII our wealth was based on our abundant natural resources and industry. We could not go back to the days past after the war due to the threat of Communism. We found the money to rebuild part of Europe "The Marshall Plan", the G.I's went to college and the Government help pay for it. These two Socialist programs though expensive at the time paid for themselves many times over. Europe did not become entirely Communist and the educated G.I's help build the national highway system and other industries that endure still today. The people who FLUNKED math were the Republicans who thought they could cut taxes and fight two wars without raising the money somehow to pay for them.

8) You paid into Social Security that is true so did everyone, I did not since I had a Government main job and paid into Civil Service just like all the Congressmen and Senators. Did you know Civil Service is not only fully funded it has a surplus? Of course I was one of the last employees to be under the old Civil Service plan CRS, this program is no longer available. However I was required to pay into Medicare and can use that health program. What most people don't understand is that the Social Security program is not a series of individual accounts, but a pool of money held in trust to be paid out to individuals when they retire. Even Civil Service is not individual accounts but a pool of money held in trust. When you pay into the system Bigdog you are not paying into your account your money is going to pay benefits to currently retired former workers. When you retire the current workers will pay into the trust so that you can be paid your predefined pension, that goes for Medicare as well, your unemployment, and disability.

The problem that is facing Social Security is that the number of retired persons able to obtain benefits is growing and they are living longer, two things not for seen when the program started. These problems were increased when the money in the trust funds started being used for things other than it was intended for. This started under the Presidency of Saint Ronald Regan. Just think of it all the Presidents from Washington to Jimmy Carter had run up a National Debt of 56 billion dollars. During Regan's first term we had the first Trillion dollar National Debt, and another Trillion dollars in his second term. The Republicans always point to the booming economy under Regan, well if you pump 2 Trillion dollars into the economy yes you will get growth due to Government spending. A sugar rush, however, when Bush I came into office he piled on another Trillion dollars in spending. Money from the Social Security Trust Accounts was burrowed by the Government under these two Presidents in order to make the deficits look smaller than they really were. During the time of Regan all this burrowing started having a negative effect on Social Security, and it became necessary for the Dems along with the Republicans to fix the problem, the compromise that will keep Social Security at least the pension part solvent until 2035.

Bill Clinton got elected and the 3 Trillion dollar deficit was starting to have a negative effect on the economy, the booming economy of Reagan had started to run out of steam during the last year of Bush I's Presidency. It became necessary despite a pledge of no new taxes for Bush I to raise taxes, that cost him the election. Clinton managed to get his economic package passed by one vote it was that package that got the country growing with real power and not a sugar fix, taxes were raised to pay for the government, and the surpluses were used to reduce the deficits, mainly because both parties could not deicide how to spend the windfall. That is the kind of impasse I like. After Clinton Bush II got elected and got rid of the surpluses and proceeded to spend more money than any President even the big O, leading to the economic meltdown of 2008.

P.S. It has been the standard practice of Walmart to over build, they go into an area run all of the small independent mom and pop stores out of business by undercutting them. Then they close stores and the local customers have to drive 50 miles to the nearest Walmart, that was on 60 minutes years ago. Sort of what happens in karaoke hosting with the large entertainment companies v.s. the individual karaoke host.

8) Actually roads are paid for by the gasoline tax you pay at the pump, which needs to be raised when you look at our road system. I hate to break this to you Bigdog the cost of Freedom isn't free. You are paying into the system with the idea that eventually you are going to get your Social Security and Medicare, if that is the case why would you vote for the party whose elite backers would want to take away your programs? Isn't that sort of voting against your own economic interests, I don't think you would see Trump of Cruz doing that.
