Editing the CDG file.

Post by Ronny »

Hi all.

I want to get rid of the first 10 seconds of silence in some of my Karaoke files. Editing the MP3 is easy enough but I can't find any software to edit the CDG file.

Maybe it would be easier to create a new CDG file?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

How are you playing your files ?
There are a number of karaoke player software programs that will do this automatically.

MTU Hoster, PCDJ karaoke and I believe the new v2 Compuhost amongst others.

They work by cueing up the song at the point the audio begins.
I don't know of any software that will actually edit the start of a cdg file.
I believe you would have to recreate the file.

There is no way to edit the cdg file and recreating them would be incredibly time consuming. As mr.dj suggests, choosing the right hosting software is the answer. To my knowledge only Hoster also allows you to adjust the start or end on individual songs that have lyrics starting before or ending after the music.

I'm using Karafun which I know is basic but it does what it says on the tin. Thanks, I'll try Hoster.

Compuhost also has the ability to cut songs to where you miss the logo's on songs that don't start right away.

Does Compuhost let you set the start and stop points for individual songs or does it just use silence detection for all songs?

I believe it's based on silence as there are no controls available to do anything.

CDGFix can be used to do this. Some songs are easier than others depending on the CDG commands that may be at the beginning of the song.

You might also want to consider that it would be illegal to reverse engineer or alter the graphics of commercial karaoke song tracks.

Cheers for the replies. I have VirtualDJ and it can set a cue for every track. That will do nicely thank you!
