First how on earth did you get the files that messed up? Second question is does your files have disc id's? if not my first suggestion will not work.
If you have a number of files that need this then KFR from www.musicbookdeluxe.com is what you need. You need to buy Music Book Deluxe and activate a subscription for their database but it will do the job. I renamed the the entire GEM series and my Nutech supercdg files. If only a few files then copy and paste from the mp3 file to the cdg file without copying the extensions will also work.

Hi there,
an interesting problem that has more than one solution.
If you only have a few files, then the simple answer is to manually rename the files by either right clicking and selecting rename, or select the file and hit the F2 key, then rename.
However, if you have loads of files, then a batch renaming method is needed.
Not only that, you need a "dynamic" renamer that can rename from an external source.
OK, the method I've devised involves several steps but ultimately will get what you want very quickly for a large number of files.
However, you'll need several freeware programs to achieve it.
1) a program to log the content of a folder
2) a program to rename files based on the output of 1) above
3) a standard bulk renamer to finally correct the resultant file extensions.
There are loads of options for 1) but here's one found after a quick search;
http://www.freewarefiles.com/Directory- ... 49205.html
For option 2), go here;
http://www.monkeyjob.com/index.html
Go down the page and download Rename from list.
Finally, search for and download a bulk filename renamer.
I use ExplorerXP but this doesn't work correctly on later versions of windows.
METHOD.
Get ALL your files together in one folder
Split the files into MP3 & CDG (usual method of clicking file type)
MOVE one set of files into a separate folder.
OK, you should have MP3 files in one folder and CDG in another.
Use the list & print program to generate a TEXT file based on the folder containing the names you want to use as the final name.
Use the text file with the "Rename from list" to rename the files in the second folder. Please note, you'll now have two folders with identically named files but ONLY the name has changed, NOT the file itself.
Then, use the bulk file renamer to change back the extensions in the second folder back to what they were.
Finally move the changed files back into the first folder.
OK, it's a pain but if you have 1000's of files, it will be over in minutes.
Please note, DO make a backup copy of your files before doing anything. You know it makes sense.
Have fun,
Sandy.

Had another Google and found this;
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/foru ... f=2&t=1526
In the same way that MP3/CDG filenames MUST match, so do sutitles for movies, so I looked for that, rather than the former.
There's a link to download the renamer on the page and a VERY detailed method for doing the deed.

I renamed not all .mp3 files just the certain one with Tag&Rename and it didn't changed the .cdg files.
This is how I changed the mp3 file from this:
Elvis Vs Jxl - A Little Less Conversation.mp3
to this:
Elvis Presley Vs. Jxl - A Little Less Conversation.mp3
The .cdg file is this = Elvis Vs Jxl - A Little Less Conversation.cdg
