A bar I work in had two different patrons crash in two days.
One girl crashed head on right down the road after being shut off by the bartender.
One guy, karaoke singer on a motorcycle turned down many offers to ride him home.
The police found the bike on the road and found him over the hill 30 feet away. Serious head injuries. He went over the handlebars and his face hit the pavement. Then he flipped over and skidded down the road on the back of his head. Ripping his scalp off. Almost died. Not sure yet if he has any brain damage.
Are the bartenders over serving?
Two alcohol related crashes in two days
This brings up the subject of "should bartenders be responsible for determining if someone has had enough to drink?". This is a ridiculous notion to me and just another example of placing the responsibility of a person's actions on someone else.
Are bartenders supposed to be human breath meters able to perceive if every person they see is intoxicated to over the legal limit. Many people can be well over the limit without exhibiting signs of being drunk.
If YOU drive drunk, and YOU injure yourself or someone else, YOU should be held solely responsible for YOUR own actions.

Our state law says bartenders can not serve people that are "Visibly Intoxicated." If they don't see the person stagger to the restroom because the bar is full, are they still responsible for over serving.wiseguy wrote:This brings up the subject of "should bartenders be responsible for determining if someone has had enough to drink?". Some people start acting and talking drunk. Slurred speak, lose of coordination. I don't recall the biker looking trashed, but I wasn't watching him either.
But it was obvious to others that offered him a ride they felt he was too gone to drive. The owner even offered to take him home.
Now where does the responsibility lie? Was he too drunk to be responsible for his decision to drive? Then who does that responsibility fall on? The bar owner/bartender...???!!!???
Does a certain level of blood alcohol negate responsible resposibility?
To me, there is no question. The responsibility lies solely on the drinker. He made the decision to start drinking. He made the decision to keep drinking after starting to feel the effects of the alcohol. He was in complete control of his actions leading up to becoming "too drunk".Bigdog wrote:Now where does the responsibility lie? Was he too drunk to be responsible for his decision to drive? In a crowded bar, how is a bartender supposed to keep track of everyone to see which ones might look "visibly intoxicated"? If a guy comes to the bar and orders a round of shots should the bartender say "I need everyone who will be drinking these to come up here for me to evaluate first"? Should a rule be imposed that says that "every person MUST come to the bar and buy their own drinks" to prevent someone from buying a drink for another person that might be visibly intoxicated? It's totally asinine.
The law in my state is even more retarded than the one in yours. Here the bar and bartenders are responsible for every person allowed into the bar. It's the last place they were in that is held responsible for any trouble they get into involving their intoxication level. It doesn't matter if you served them or not.
These idiotic laws are the result of lobbying by groups like M.A.D.D. and others. These obsessed people want to eliminate drinking all together. And the lawyers love these laws because they give them more people to sue. "Well the drunk driver was killed in the accident but I can still go after the bar and bartenders".
What happened to personal responsibility?
I tend to agree that these laws are ridiculous; as are the rest of the nanny laws that our government (state and federal) seem to think we need.
Every individual should be responsible for their own actions; stupid or otherwise. The bartenders are busy working; as mentiond, they can't possible know the intoxication level of every person in the bar.
It is very unfortunate that these two folks decided to drink too much. It is also unfortunate that thier friends weren't able or willing to grab the keys. But, bottom line, it is their own fault. Hopefully both will recover and learn from their mistake.
Sorry if this didn't come out right ... I'm exhausted and one my way to bed!

OH NO....
Another singer in a bad wreck. I don't know when or where and if any drinking is involved but my guess is yes or dope. But she sings at the same show and is friends with the biker.
Anyway she was with some guy (Not her husband) ouch....anyhow the guy is trying to evade the cops. Wrecks the car it rolls over 3 times and she gets ejected.
Back broken in 2 places and they had to sew her ear back on. She is doing pretty good considering.
Update on the biker. Heard things aren't going too good.
I wish more people would just drink to have fun, not get hammered.

You know, I think that is a sign of maturity that some people never figure out. The last time I drank to get hammered I wasn't old enough to do so legally.
I drink when I got out because I need something to wet the whistle. Our bar bill is usually less than $20 for the night. It's scary how drunk some people get and still drive.
