Which one dose not distort the sound when it is keyed down or up.

Either one will. It depends on the quality of the keychanger. If you're using pacemaker then you are out of luck.

Is it the key changer or the sound card?

Pacemaker works just fine with my zipped files.

Sound card..

Maybe how they were ripped and zipped?

I use siglos karaoke with power CD+G burner. Key changer is apart of siglos Karaoke
