Well I've had a reply from Bose and I cannot believe there response. It's as follows:-
Dear Len
Thank you for your enquiry. I posed the question to one of my colleagues who has in depth knowledge of the 802s from when they were first introduced, and his answer was that he has often seen 802s painted/sprayed with common emulsion paint, which seems to work fine.

Well, there you go!

Emulsion is water based, so wouldn't affect the plastic.

Don't know if it matt or gloss you're after, however.

I can't decide whether to go for matt or gloss yet. If I can use emulsion I might go for eggshell!!!!!
