Why can't we become a great heavy manufacturing country again....do you think we should be trading with communist China to begin with? Why should we contribute to their economy? Why can't we stop the corporate greed that started this whole mess in the first place... We need companies that test the workers as they should be with decent wages and benefits. I would never work for any non Union business....sure the unions are probably corrupt but not as corrupt as companies that are purely profit driven at the expense of the employees ability and right to earn a decent living.

Corporations need tax breaks.....you'll never get a good paying job from somebody on food stamps.... Rich people create jobs and hire people not poor people.... If companies can't make enough money to stay in business then there are no jobs.....but that shouldn't include corporate greed where the CEO gets millions while screwing the workers out of everything they can for the sake of the bottom line and share holders happiness .... Our entire economy is rigged against the working man. 401 K ponsi schemes are part of that because it forces the working man to root for corporate greed to build their retirement accounts..... Think about it....if you contribute to their ponsi scheme you're part of the problem. 401Ks were started by the government as a way to get more of your hard earned money... Just like the company stores.... We'll pay you and you can give the money back to us. One way or another.... If not in taxes we'll crash the stock market and take it back.... Keep putting in and we'll keep taking it back.... You'll be a millionaire trust us.... And since all the companies have forced their employees to have a 401K account you're trapped.... You're indirectly part of the corporate greed cycle.... No corporate greed your ponsi account stays low...

Andrew Carnegie and guys like him are the reason unions needed to be formed... He would have keep his workers as slaves working for peanuts, if not for the brave men that fought and died forming labor unions. Non Union workers benefit from labor unions fighting for better wages, benefits and working conditions. I considered my union dues as payment to keep my benefits which my company would have taken away from me in a heartbeat.

8) I don't know if we should be trading with Communist China or not? Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell think we should, so did Richard Nixon who resumed ties with Communist China, Ronald Regan, Bush I, and Bush II, all Republican pro business free trade Presidents? Leaders who presided over the years to the loss of our manufacturing base. Regan especially disliked unions, and saw the sending away of jobs as a way to weaken the unions you seem to be so fond of. I belonged to a union, so did my dad, my grandfather was a farmer so no union. You are right corporations should get tax breaks if they are making a product here and providing jobs. If they are moving out of the country and taking those jobs with them they should be made to pay the cost of the displaced workers, not have the taxpayers foot the bill. There is a glimmers of the truth here and there in your statements, 401 K's are scam designed to get workers off their defined pension plans. That is why Bush II wanted Social Security converted to 401 K's to get the government off the hook, if the stock market tanked like it did in 2008 what would have the retired citizens on Social Security have done? It would not take much to secure Social Security for future generations. Paul Ryan wants to move Medicare to a voucher system and convert Social Security to a 401K, instead of going to single payer covering every citizen's medical and saving a defined Social Security system. Andrew Carnegie did a lot of wicked things in his life time, in the end he only left his children a small part of his fortune, the rest he gave to charity and building Carnegie libraries and stocking them with books. There is still an old Carnegie library in downtown Riverside Ca. I guess he felt that made up for his many sins. Of course he did provide many jobs, sort of a mixed bag, like most business people.

P.S. Getting back to your main question why can't we get back to the way things were, simply because times have changed. The Industrial Revolution has given way to a Technological & Communications Revolution. We don't need the same huge populations we once needed and we will have fewer jobs going forward since computers and robots are replacing people. This is going to cause a mass social dislocation much like we have been experiencing for the last 40 years, that has accelerated over the last 16 years. Even in China where the jobs fled even the workers there are being replaced by machines, and they have a population that is 4 almost 5 times greater than ours. They will be having their own problems very soon. They are just one bad harvest away from social disorder, we are the store house of the world, but our emergency supply of grain is only 100 days. What happens after 3 months?

8) Well it seems the Indians have won and the pipeline for now will have to think of another route. This pipeline was too dangerous to have it laid near the state capitol Bismark, but it was ok to put near the Indians drinking water and sacred sites, I guess the Indian wars aren't over yet? This is Canadian tar sand oil that we don't need. It's Canada's problem and they should run the project through their own country. Oh that's right they don't want it either. If Trump truly believes in America first then he will uphold the Army Corp of Engineers report that the pipeline is too dangerous to be laid near any water sources. That weasel Paul Ryan wanted to go ahead with the project, everything he says makes me believe he is in the pocket of big business and doesn't care about the average citizen.

8) I love it bigdog you are always talking about the number of people on food stamps and the SNAP program in general. Some Republicans have pushed for the idea of reducing this program by 5% a year, I guess until it is eliminated. Right now we spend about 72 billion dollars on SNAP a year. There have been efforts to increase the work requirements to obtain food stamps which in 42 states are too lax, according to Republicans. There has been a push to also require drug testing for eligibility, and even having the program sent back to the individual states in the form of a block grant. You are right the cost of this program has doubled since 2008, due to the economic meltdown, the reason more people qualify is their income is so low, and they are not paid a living wage. Here is the reason why there has been no reform bigdog, the Republicans in the Congress are afraid to vote for Ryan's solution to the problem. You see a great deal of the people on food stamps are in poor rural areas, displaced workers in the rust belt, the areas that voted Republican in the last election. Where the SNAP reform bills have come up short believe it or not is in the Senate, because Republican Senators are afraid to cut off the food supply. They know cutting off people needing food assistance would cause social unrest. Even the requirement of drug testing was turned down, as one Republican Senator put it even drug addicts have children to feed. Not to mention SNAP helps farmers keep food prices stable, another big block of Republican votes is the farming middle of this country. So you see bigdog it is in both parties interest not to do away with SNAP.

P.S. Today is Dec 7 75 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor. On this day we should all remember the sacrifices made by the generations that have some before us. Also to think about the saying in "unity there is strength". We as a people are concerned with others in the world going hungry, we should be just as concerned about our own countrymen sufferings, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

8) Well three more days and Trump will have his news briefing discussing how he will divest himself of his business interests and turn over his empire to his kids. We will see how many pants on fire's he gets from the new media, which are all bias of course, and anti Trump. At least in his own little world.

Trump will have the final say with the pipeline....get ready for cheaper gasoline

If the Russians hacking kept Clinton out of the White House we owe them a debt we can't repay..they saved us. I hope Putin sits right beside trump at the inauguration dinner ..that would be a nice nail in Obamas crap legacy..

Trading with other countries is ok but everything is unfair right now....if you could buy a hammer from China or a hammer made in the US at the same price which would you buy? That's how we bring jobs back to the US ...tax their crappy products like they tax ours...see what happens .... Their government subsidizes them to make up the difference on the money they lose by selling their crap cheap..we don't do that.

8) Gasoline is already cheap Bigdog where have you been the last few years? Would you want the pipeline in your backyard if it was your drinking water that was at risk? I don't know what to make of you, you tell me you don't want a Socialist like Sanders, Obama or Clinton calling the shots, but it is ok for Vladimir Putin to try and rig our election process. You know Putin the guy that wants to dismantle NATO and get back into the Ukraine, and the Baltic States, the ex-KGB guy, who runs the former Empire of Evil, yeah that Putin. Trump is supposed to be increasing jobs, getting us into a trade war with China and other countries will actually cost jobs that depend on trade. Think about all that cheap crap the next time you shop at Walmart. If you weren't so serious this would all be so funny. As it is this is really sad sad sad.

8) Latest word is the electors are wanting to get more information concerning Russia's involvement in our election process, and also about close ties between Trump, members of proposed cabinet and Vladimir Putin. Maybe they are going to do their jobs and take a close look at a President elect that is too close to Russia for comfort. With just 6 days left before the vote I hope they get the information needed to make a proper decision. To Russia with love was the name of a James Bond movie, it should not be a matter of U.S. foreign policy. :bowto: :bowto: :bowto:

Everybody knows there is no love loss between Obama and Putin. Trump has already had more cordial dealings with Putin and he's not in office yet. It's beneficial to the entire world that those two most powerful leaders get along. Pipelines have to go somewhere...has the Alaskan pipeline killed Alaska yet? Ruined it forever?

8) Why should Obama be in love with a dictator? Putin is the former head of the KGB, he is trying to reform the Russian Empire, extend his influence in the Middle East, Putin takes his hatred of the free press a little farther than Trump even, he has news reporters killed. Putin wanted Trump to win this last election because he knew he would be easier to deal with than Hillary. If NATO should unravel during Trump's turn in office it would have dire effects on the collective security of all of the treaty members. As far as the pipeline goes at the time the Alaskan pipeline was built that oil field was the last new one we had. Since that time new ways of recovering oil from old wells has made us energy independent along with our rich deposits of natural gas. Currently we are energy independent for the first time in years. We do not need this dirty Canadian tar sand oil, it is not ours and not our problem. The oil produced from this source will not be sold in the U.S. but elsewhere. It's Canada's oil it's Canada's problem let them run it through their country. The problem is the Canadian environmentalists don't want it there, and neither do the citizens. They are afraid it will rupture and damage their lands.

P.S. Trump has delayed that new conference on how he plans to divest his holdings and transfer them to his children. It would seem that he wants to wait until after the swearing in ceremony in January. I personally don't think it's going to happen just like we will never see his tax returns.

Maybe delayed because of large legal complications that need to be worked out.

After making this possible I would think Putin loves Hilary... http://www.businessinsider.com/the-clin ... ium-2015-4

Both made millions if not billions on this deal. Long term.

8) Maybe he thinks he can slide on by without ever having to explain anything to anybody, we will still be waiting so see his tax returns, if he decides to run for another term.

8) Now try real hard Bigdog and try to think for yourself. If Putin is so tight with Hillary why was he releasing e-mails through a second party site, and trying hack into the DNC? He could have done in Trump real easy early on and none would be the wiser. He wanted the weakest President he could leading this nation. One's who's business interests would have been more important the what is good for this country.

8) Well it is the 15th of December and the divestment press conference with the kids isn't going to happen is it Donald? The reason is Trump feels he can have his cake and eat it to. That he is not bound by the examples of past President's and can pretty much do as he pleases. New information released by the C.I.A. confirms that Russia is hacking us and did try to influence the election. The electors meet in 4 days. They are faced with the most important vote of that body in the history or our republic. They have the choice to approve Trump or deny him and elect someone else. Trump refuses to put to rest fears that many have about his fitness to be President. It will be interesting to see if this drama plays out and this country is handed over to person with so many question marks?
