Speakers

Post by barneyboy »

I currently have speakers 200 watts each at 4 ohms, can any one advise me as to whether I can connect an amplifier of 700 watt @ 4ohms,
man in the shop said "no prob" but I'm not sure whether he was just a "salsman"

many thanks

Barney

hi

Not sure wjether I should respond in this or the other post,
but thanks very much for the link, but to be honest I read it and am now even more confused.
I have no info on or about my speakers apart from that they are 4 ohms 200 watts each, will an amplifier of 700 watts 4 ohms damage my speakers.
Sorry to be a numb skull, but living in the sun has boiled my brains somewhat.
your patience is appreciated

There are 2 speaker numbers to be concerned with. Peak and Max.

You should be OK. Too much power is just as bad as too little power. You need some amplifier head room so during the loud times the speakers don't go into distortion. Going over the max for any length of time could damage the speakers.
