Adding Karaoke To Your Home Stereo System
This guide is written under the assumption that you already possess a good home stereo system. Adding a karaoke player to the system is not much different than adding a typical CD player or tape deck. The
audio connection from the karaoke player to the system amplifier is the basic
double RCA cable. The
video signal from the karaoke player must be converted to an
VHF frequency in order to display the graphics (lyrics) on your TV screen
unless your TV is equipped with a "
video in" RCA jack. In this case you can simply connect the
video out from the player to the
video in of the TV and use the TV's auxiliary feature.
If your TV does not have a video in jack, you have two choices. You can use the
video input of a
VCR that is connected to the TV (almost all VCR's have these) or you can purchase an
RF Converter which is a small unit that converts the signal.
To install the converter you simply connect a
single RCA cable from the
video out of the player to the
video in of the converter and then connect a standard
coaxial TV cable from the converter to the TV. The RF Converter usually has a
switch that allows you to select channel
3 or
4. The TV channel must be set to the same channel that is selected on the converter.
Now you are pretty much ready to go. You will plug your microphone into mic jack on the front of the player. There are usually controls on the player to adjust the microphone volume and reverb effects. Spacing out your speakers will help reduce feedback from the microphone. Use your amplifier to adjust the volume and sound of the music.
